Digital Imaging

Radiographs are images of your teeth that dentists use to evaluate your oral health. These X-rays are used with low levels of radiation to capture images of the interior of your teeth and gums, areas that we cannot see with our bare eyes. Radiographs can help your dentist identify a variety of problems, such as cavities, tooth decay, and impacted teeth. In a dental office, radiographs enable us to detect cavities in between your teeth, determine bone level, and analyze the health of your bone, examine the roots and nerves of teeth, diagnose lesions such as cysts or tumors, and assess the damage of oral trauma.

 

Due to the invasive nature of radiographs, our dentists very carefully assess its necessity, and very cautiously determine what kind of radiograph to take, keeping patient wellbeing, health, and urgency in mind.

 

Dental radiographs are invaluable aids in diagnosing, treating, and maintaining dental health. Exposure time for dental radiographs is extremely minimal. Digital X-rays result in 1/6th the radiation exposure to you. Digital imaging can also help us retrieve valuable diagnostic information. We may be able to see cavities better.

 

Digital imaging allows us to store patient images, and enables us to quickly and easily transfer them to specialists or insurance companies.

Intra-oral Camera

At Alvin Smiles, we utilize intra-oral camera technology to help enhance your understanding of your diagnosis. An intra-oral camera is a very small camera that allows our practice to view clear, precise images of your mouth, teeth and gums, in order for us to accurately make your diagnosis. With clear, defined, and enlarged images, you can see details that may be missed by standard mirror examinations. Intra-oral cameras help us make a faster and more accurate diagnosis, meaning less chair time for you!
