Bonding

Bonding is a viable alternative to dental veneers. For teeth that are chipped, cracked, discolored or disarranged, bonding can serve as a restorative procedure.

How does it work?

To prepare the tooth for the procedure, its surface is etched lightly, followed by the application of the bonding liquid. After it sets, the dentist applies a plastic resin and sculpts it into shape. After the resin sets, it is trimmed, smoothed and polished to give it a natural appearance.

Considerations

This procedure is usually completed in one sitting and will considerably boost the appearance of the tooth. However, resin is not as strong as natural enamel, so there is a possibility of breakage. Bonding has a tendency to last between three to five years before it’s time to repair.
